Kathryn Ring

Kathryn obtained her BHSc in Addictions Counselling in 2000 and her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2019. Her personal and professional journey has offered her experience in addictions, bereavement, trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders. She has several years of experience as a therapist working in substance and behavioural addictions treatment center settings, performing individual counselling as well as facilitating support, aftercare, and psychoeducational groups.

Kathryn incorporates practices of client-centred positive psychology, solution focused, cognitive behavioural therapy, and existentialism, amongst others. Her intent is to collaboratively work with individuals to advance coping strategies, generate self-wisdom, and find inspiring ways to manage challenges and adverse life circumstances.

Kathryn's compassionate nature hopes to motivate change in families and empower couples and individuals through holistic healing. She looks to increase awareness around transgenerational, socioenvironmental, and biological roots, but places utmost importance on living in the here and now and facilitating discovery of meaning and purpose in the present. Her authentic nonjudgmental approach and open-minded beliefs offer respect towards individuality and characteristics of the unique human experience. Her philosophical posture is that the person is the expert in their own life, and that her role is that of a fellow traveller meant to walk alongside the client in their journey through recovery and achievement of wellness.

Sheryl Field

Prior to joining Clearwater Counselling, Sheryl enjoyed a 25-year career as a registered nurse in both Alberta and B.C., with experience ranging from critical care and cardiology, to family medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Calgary, and her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Building upon her acute interest in biology and neurobiology, Sheryl's focus is on the innate mind, body, and spiritual connection, as well as the impact of stress, and how self-awareness supports healing. She has worked alongside individuals who have survived childhood, developmental, and acute trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and addiction.

In addition to Sheryl's passion for optimal mental health, she has volunteered for several years as an integrative health coach, leading individuals and groups of all ages towards enriched holistic health. As well, she has enjoyed coaching the sport of triathlon to young adults in active recovery from addiction. She fundamentally believes in healing and growth through a genuine, non-judgemental, and authentic connection, that is both client-focussed and strength-based. Sheryl confidently integrates several modalities into treatment, including mindfulness, family systems, narrative, cognitive behavioural, patterns of attachment, motivational interviewing, and solution-focussed therapy. Her warm energy and sincere compassion are the foundation of her practice.
